The Jacksonville Jaguars might have a coaching vacancy to fill this offseason and look to New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as the replacement.
Jacksonville hasn’t moved on from coach Gus Bradley yet, but his 14-47 record suggests the team may look to do so, especially if someone they like looks ready to take on the position.
According to Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times, McDaniels might be that someone:
“Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell is believed to be interested in [Josh] McDaniels, so the Los Angeles Rams being on the hunt for a coach could impact how the Jaguars deal with Gus Bradley.”
As we’ve noted in the past, McDaniels isn’t going to wait around on Bill Belichick on the hopes he can take over as New England’s coach:
I’m aware of the report and I’ll try to clear that up. I definitely said it before and I’ll say it again: I definitely would love to be a head coach again. There are only 32 of those in the world. They’re opportunities that don’t come along very often, and if you would ever be so fortunate and blessed to have another opportunity to do it, and for myself it would be for a second time, it would be an opportunity that I would look forward to. It would have to be at the right place at the right time, which is what I’ve always said.
McDaniels deserves another shot and one has to think Jacksonville is a good place for him. He’s good at molding any offensive talent into a productive unit. Jacksonville has plenty of talent on both sides of the football, though he might have to start over at the quarterback position.
The Jaguars need some fresh leadership. McDaniels will not only like the roster in Jacksonville, but the long, long leash given to coaches, so this report makes sense.
