Don’t call it a comeback.
That’s basically what DeMarco Murray is saying,
The Titans running back is a candidate for the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award, but he doesn’t want it.
“Hopefully, not to me; hopefully it’s for somebody else,” Murray told ESPN.com. “I don’t know, I don’t know. We’ll see, I guess.”
Murray is second in the NFL this season with 1,135 rushing yards after running for just 702 with the Eagles last season. In 2014, Murray led the NFL with 1,845 rushing yards and helped the Cowboys reach the playoffs.
Players coming back from an injury or missed time tend to be the winners of the Comeback Player of the Year Award, although Philip Rivers won it in 2013 after throwing 15 interceptions the season before.
Despite his dreadful 2015, Murray still played in 15 games in what was his fifth NFL season. So perhaps he feels the Comeback Player of the Year award isn’t for him because, to paraphrase LL Cool J, he’s been here for years.
