The Green Bay Packers are back, largely because Aaron Rodgers is once again playing like an NFL MVP quarterback.
Sunday’s 38-10 win over the Seattle Seahawks was the Packers’ third straight victory. In those three games, Rodgers has connected on 68 of 92 passes for 768 yards, seven touchdowns and zero interceptions. He’s completing almost 74 percent of his passes and averaging 8.4 yards per attempt during the win streak, with a scintillating passer rating of 123.8.
But Rodgers still hasn’t impressed his teammates, who have come to expect nothing short of greatness from the two-time league MVP.
“We’ve seen it for years now, in practice, in games,” said receiver Jordy Nelson, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN. “So as hard as it is, in a good way, he can’t impress us because he does it all the time. Not saying that he can’t play well, but I mean he’s a gamer, he can play, he can fight through some things. He did a great job tonight.”
Rodgers threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams on the third play from scrimmage on Sunday. He also hurt his right calf on the play, but Rodgers fought through the pain and helped finish off Green Bay’s biggest and most important win of the season.
His final line against the top scoring defense in the NFL? Try 18 completions for 246 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. His passer rating finished at 150.8, the fourth highest of his career. Not bad for a guy playing with two injured legs (Rodgers also has a hurt left hamstring).
Suddenly, Rodgers looks like a legitimate MVP candidate. He leads the NFL in touchdown passes with 32, and he’s fourth in passer rating (101.1) and sixth in passing yards (3,529). If the Packers run the table, as Rodgers predicted to start his team’s hree-game winning streak, it would tough to ignore what Green Bay’s suddenly immortal quarterback has put together to finish 2016.
Aaron Rodgers is great again, making the Packers a team no one wants to face.
