Adam Gase: Jay Ajayi has put ’10 bad days’ behind him

Buffalo Bills v Miami Dolphins

Jay Ajayi has come a long way since having “10 bad days” right before the start of the season, Dolphins coach Adam Gase told Pro Football Talk Live.

Ajayi gained 214 yards with a touchdown in Sunday’s 28-25 home win over the Bills. It was the Dolphins’ second win in a row, and both of those wins have come against teams with winning records.

The Dolphins improved to 3-4 as Ajayi became just the fourth player in NFL history to gain 200 yards in two straight games.

The others?

O.J. Simpson, Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams.

Pretty good company.

It’s hard to believe now that Ajayi didn’t even make the trip when the Dolphins opened the season at Seattle. The Dolphins weren’t happy with his practice habits.

“He had 10 bad days there from the fourth preseason game to the first game, but he’s been great every day besides having that little rough spot,” Gase said.

“10 bad days” sounds like the title of some chick flick with Jennifer Aniston, and apparently what Gase saw from Ajayi during those 10 days was just as painful to watch.

The Dolphins’ season already is looking a lot better than it did two weeks ago when they were 1-4. They were 31 seconds away from beating the Seahawks in the opener. Who knows where the Dolphins would be right now if Ajayi didn’t have those 10 bad days and played in that game the way he has the last two weeks.
