The Arizona Cardinals have released 2012 first-round pick Michael Floyd.
Arizona announced the move on Wednesday, just two days after Floyd was arrested on charges of driving under the influence during the morning hours following the Cardinals’ loss to the Miami Dolphins last Sunday.

Floyd, 27, was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. He was suffering through a miserable 2016 season for the Cardinals, with just 33 catches, 446 yards and four touchdowns over 13 games.
A mess on the field and off it, Floyd left the Cardinals with very few options.
Head coach Bruce Arians said on Monday that the Cardinals would have enough information by today to make a decision on his receiver’s future. Apparently, Arizona’s own internal investigation warranted a release for Floyd, who turned 27 in November.
Over five seasons in Arizona, Floyd caught 242 passes for 3,739 yards and 23 touchdowns. His best season came in 2013, when he caught a career high 65 passes for 1,041 yards.
The Cardinals, who are 5-7-1 and likely out of the playoff race, take on the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
