Houston Texans coach Bill O’Brien is a hard man to please.
Despite his team hitting the locker room with a halftime lead against the Detroit Lions, O’Brien was mad at his guys for silly mental lapses.
So of course, one of his coaches went out and goofed on the second-half kickoff.
Special teams coordinator Larry Izzo only had 10 players on the field for the opening kickoff of the second half—O’Brien lost his mind and had to be restrained:
To be fair, it sends a pretty bad message to the team if the head coach spends halftime harping about mental mistakes and his coaches go out right after and commit a major gaffe.
But so it goes in Houston, an overly talented team slapped with expectations each year, yet O’Brien’s teams simply bumble through the season in the miserable AFC South. This year, even the addition of Brock Osweiler hasn’t changed anything on the field or off it. The Texans only led the Lions by 10 points with about four minutes left in regulation.
Such a theme in mind, don’t expect this to be the last outburst by O’Brien this year.
