Cam Newton ignored Ron Rivera’s warning and got benched

Cam Newton should have listened to Ron Rivera.

By now, most fans know Newton was benched for the first series of the Carolina Panthers’ game against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 13 because of an apparent spat over the dress code. Video of the confrontation has made the rounds.

Now it turns out Newton directly disobeyed a warning from his coach.

So Newton decided to take a risk and lost…big time. Rivera isn’t a coach who will value one player over another because of status or name and made a point to stress this example on a national stage.

To Newton’s credit, he owned up to the mistake in humble fashion, indeed saying no person is greater than another.
