Cam Newton undergoes MRI on throwing shoulder

San Diego Chargers v Carolina Panthers

Carolina Panthers fans can rest easy—Cam Newton still sounds like a go for a Week 15 game against the Washington Redskins.

Still, it’s a little concerning to find out Newton had an MRI Wednesday and took a veteran’s day.

Bill Voth of Black and Blue Review captured the details:

According to a source, Newton was sent for an MRI on Tuesday after complaining of soreness in his throwing shoulder. The tests didn’t reveal any structural damage, so he’s still expected to start in Washington.

“It’s nothing to be scared about,” a coy Newton said when asked why he didn’t do much at practice.

One can look at this a few different ways. One, it’s weird Newton just had a “veteran’s day” for the first time in his career. Or two, this is completely normal because the Panthers don’t play again until next Monday anyway.

Seeing as the next game happens on Monday, the Panthers will have to turn in an injury report Thursday. If Newton’s name pops up there, fans will have quite a bit more to worry about.
