Coach doesn’t want to call Julio Jones’ injury ‘turf toe’

Atlanta Falcons v Philadelphia Eagles

Apparently Falcons coach Dan Quinn doesn’t like the term “turf toe,” at least when it comes to characterizing Julio Jones’ injury.

“Julio has a toe sprain, it’s not turf toe,” Quinn said on Atlanta’s 92.9 The Game via ESPN.com.

Quinn said that Jones’ condition is “improving” and that he’ll participate in part of the walkthrough at Wednesday’s practice, but he won’t take part in full-team workouts.

By definition, turf toe is a sprain of the ligaments surrounding the big toe. Jones, who leads the NFL with 1,253 receiving yards, missed Sunday’s 42-14 win over the Rams with the injury.

The Falcons (8-5), who are tied for first place in the NFC South, host the 49ers (1-12) Sunday. If they can’t beat that team without Jones, they don’t deserve to go to the playoffs. They should think about resting him Sunday so he’s at full strength when the Falcons visit the Panthers next week and finish the regular season at home against the Saints.
