Those campaigning for the Dallas Cowboys to start Tony Romo over Dak Prescott after a loss to the New York Giants don’t have any ground to stand on—something the Cowboys have made abundantly clear.
Dallas lost its second game of the Season in Week 14, a 10-7 gaffe at the hands of the Giants. As expected, the internet exploded with folks suggesting the team bench its rookie quarterback.
Jerry Jones stressed Prescott will remain the starter, per the Star Telegram‘s Clarence E. Hill Jr.:
“No,” Garrett said “we feel good about Dak playing quarterback for us.”
“We feel good about where Dak is right now with our football team,” Garrett said
Look, Prescott wasn’t good, throwing one touchdown against two interceptions. But the rookie rattled off 11 straight wins and faltered in a gritty NFC East contest. It’s why Jones isn’t even close to giving up on his starter:
First of all he’s got 13 NFL ball games at a high level under his belt,” Jones said. “What’s he got four interceptions now? Is it four? OK, so he’s got four interceptions in 13 ball games. I feel good about our quarterback, and I like what we are at the quarterback position as well. We should have asked and wanted him to make the drive that might have won this thing for us tonight. We were within striking distance. I don’t want to make excuses. Most of what happened to us offensively tonight was a well coached NYG defense more than a failing of a player or players.
Fans shouldn’t want a switch now. A quarterback with 13 games under his belt has built a full rapport with the offense. The quarterback starting his first game of the season can be both rusty and need weeks and weeks of reps as the starter to be effective.
So no, regardless of what the hype train says, the Cowboys won’t give up on Prescott now.
