Jason Witten throws support behind Dak Prescott

Washington Redskins v Dallas Cowboys

The close friendship between Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and tight end Jason Witten is well known.

Witten, though, wasn’t shy recently about publicly talking up Romo’s replacement, Dak Prescott. Coming off a loss and heading into a tough game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Witten spoke with the media and made a point to stress the fact he’s behind Prescott.

NFL.com’s Marc Sessler captured the notables:

“Dak’s answered the bell every step of the way, and I’m 100 percent confident he’ll do that on Sunday night. We all go through adversity and any time you lose, it’s easy for people on the outside to point blame at that position, but we all have to do better. You look at that offensive performance, we all understand that.”

“He’s not a rookie anymore. A lot of that is for people at the barber shop to talk about. For him, he comes back to work, continues to try to get better, works hard, good communicating. He’s had really two good days (of practice).”

Wild suggestions of Romo replacing Prescott popped up after last week’s loss to the New York Giants. There, Prescott only threw for 165 yards with one touchdown to two interceptions in the 10-7 loss.

Witten, like many, would point out how silly it is to talk about benching Prescott after the rookie led the team to 11 consecutive wins and a playoff berth. Romo is healthy and ready to go, but swapping out players at the most important position of all so close to the postseason probably isn’t the greatest idea.

Prescott has one of the roster’s most prominent players backing him up in public. All he has to do now is go out and play his game against the Buccaneers, a playoff contender looking for better seeding.
