Jerry Jones admits he stirs up the Cowboys QB controversy on purpose

Houston Texans v Dallas Cowboys

In today’s dose of predictable news, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones intentionally stirs up a quarterback controversy between Tony Romo and Dak Prescott.

Only in Jerryworld. Fans remember the headlines calling for Romo to start after the rookie Prescott had one bad game. The team seemed to flip flop on the idea in public statements, though never actually gave any indication Prescott had a chance at being benched.

Jones admitted he makes this a thing in an interview with Jason Gay of the Wall Street Journal:

“That’s one of the things that makes sports interesting,” Jones said. “I do feed that.”

“I think there’s some of me that wants to [stir things up],” Jones said. “That probably is intentional.”

Jones is old school and loves what he does, so anyone talking about his team instead of a different one is a major win in his book. Critics will point out that such controversy might cause Prescott or Romo to falter under the pressure—but this is Jerry Jones and he isn’t going to change how he does things now.

The rookie Prescott hasn’t shown any signs of being hampered by the situation. He threw for 279 yards and got the Cowboys back on track with a Week 15 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

While a win, Jerry won’t have much trouble to stir up this week.
