Joe Thomas trade rumors name Browns’ asking price for star OT

Cincinnati Bengals v Cleveland Browns

With the Cleveland Browns at 0-7, the asking price for left tackle Joe Thomas has gone public.

Thomas almost got dealt to the Denver Broncos this time last year, so the sense of deja vu around this isn’t hard to understand.

According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, alongside the Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots, several teams have an interest in Thomas and his asking price:

The Cardinals, Giants, and Seahawks have varying degrees of interest in Thomas as well; the challenge would be coming up with what the Browns want (the source says it’s a second-round pick) and the cap space.

It sounds like a lot for an offensive lineman, but a team in need would be silly to avoid pulling the trigger. The odds a second-round pick ever turns out as great as Thomas are downright tiny. Thomas is only 32 years old, meaning he has another two to four years of high play left before he either moves on or kicks inside to guard and keeps playing well.

Then again, folks heard this same story last year and the Browns shied away from helping a deal happen. But this might be Cleveland’s last chance to get any real value out of Thomas and new head coach Hue Jackson finally understands the extent of the rebuild he just undertook.

Keep an eye out for a contender to make this happen.
