The San Diego Chargers lost running back Melvin Gordon Sunday to a serious injury after a botched play.
Gordon went out to receive a pass from Philip Rivers, only to get involved in the pile after the ball bounced away.

The Chargers didn’t take long to call for a cart.
Twitter provided a timeline of the events and reaction, including well wishes from players such as Cam Newton:
A cart is out for Chargers RB Melvin Gordon in Charlotte.

Cam Newton one of several Panthers with some well wishes for Melvin Gordon as he's taken off the field.

This interrupts a strong sophomore season for Gordon, who had ran for 992 yards and 10 touchdowns on a 4.0 average after not scoring at all as a rookie. The numbers are even more impressive when thinking about some of the players missing from the lineup and the strength of the AFC West.
Call it another big blow for the 5-7 Chargers, who already have players such as Jason Verrett, Keenan Allen, Manti Te’o and Danny Woodhead, among many others, on injured reserve.
