Nelson Agholor says benching woke him up

Cleveland Browns v Philadelphia Eagles

Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor said that he had wanted to play against the Packers since he was a child. He squandered that opportunity, however, with dropped passes and mental lapses.

Agholor was benched for the Eagles’ 27-13 home loss to the Packers on Monday night. Although he’s dropped just two passes this season, according to Sporting Charts, he’s caught just 27 of the 51 passes thrown his way.

“The fact that I didn’t get to play that day was an eye opener,” Agholor told Philly.com. “You have to make sure you always have fun every opportunity you do have to play.”

Eagles coach Doug Pederson hasn’t decided if Agholor will play Sunday at Cincinnati. Jordan Matthews sprained his ankle Monday night but will play. Dorial Green-Beckham tied his career high with six receptions against the Packers and moved ahead of Agholor for fourth on the team with 29 receptions.

Green-Beckham was the 40th overall pick in the 2015 draft and Agholor was the 20th overall pick. The Titans drafted Green-Beckham and traded him to the Eagles in August.

If he lives up to the billing of a first-round pick, the 23-year-old Agholor will probably get a chance to play the Packers later in his career.
