Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has head the rumors about his being a candidate for the head coaching gig with the Los Angeles Rams.
He’s not a fan.
Fans knew Carroll would have to address this borderline silly rumor sooner or later. As Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk captured, he shut them down in emphatic fashion:
“I have no comment about that,” Carroll said.
Asked next whether he’d completely rule out coaching the Rams, Carroll said, “Yes.”
The initial rumors, which we covered here, cited reports from within the Rams saying Carroll was a “huge” name the organization likes and that it might express interest.
Carroll, of course, couldn’t respond to these rumors any other way. He’s under contract with the Seahawks through the 2019 season. Even if he wanted to coach a team like the Rams, it wouldn’t make much sense to talk about it right now as his team attempts to make a push for the playoffs. If he had any desire to leave whatsoever, he should have never put his name on the extension.
Again, this sounds like the Rams trying to garner hype for the position. It’s a good one, but the odds a guy like Carroll leaves a team like the Seahawks for it seem minuscule.
