Over the years, the University of North Dakota has had many brother combinations play for their storied program. The most recent brother combination was the Schmaltz brothers Jordan and Nick (2014-15). This season, UND has another brother team, the Poolman brothers Tucker and Colton. Both are defensemen and play in UND’s top-six parings.
During the offseason, the Winnipeg Jets wanted to sign Tucker Poolman, to a professional contract. The Jest would have to wait, the junior from East Grand Forks, Minnesota, decided to return for another season.
For Poolman, there was some unfinished business before he moved on. The older Poolman is a two-time NCHC Academic All-Conference Team and is on track to graduate after three years of school. There’s also a chance to play with his younger brother.
For the Poolman’s, UND hockey is a family affair, Tucker and Colton’s father Mark is also a member of the on the UND coaching staff. The eldest Poolman is the assistant athletic trainer and strength coach for the Fighting Hawks. Yep, there’s three Poolman’s on the Fighting Hawks hockey team this year.
