It seems all the complaints about the Pro Bowl are finally being listened to.
Criticism has ranged from the quality of the game, to the chance of players being injured, and all are valid points. The problem is that the Pro Bowl — like Thursday Night Football — is still big business. It may be tough on players, but if the NFL can sell it, they’re going to continue to support it.
But it looks like they’re taking a step in the right direction, judging by what they announced on Monday. The Pro Bowl game will still exist, but hopefully won’t in the coming years.
The NFL announced it will be holding a Pro Bowl Skills Showdown, set to take place Thursday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. ET in Orlando. Here are some of the events, per the news release:
Competitions include:
Epic Pro Bowl Dodgeball: Pro Bowlers will compete in a game of dodgeball.
Power Relay Challenge: Four team members will compete in a timed relay race.
Precision Passing: Two players on each team will battle it out, trying to hit moving targets of varying size and distance.
Best Hands: Quarterback and wide receiver duos from each team will show off their skills, connecting on as many pass attempts as possible before time runs out.
We have dodgeball, and that in itself makes this great. I’ll be tuning in.
