The Minnesota Vikings are struggling to run the ball without Adrian Peterson. They rank dead last in nearly every rushing category. But there is hope that Peterson will be able to return this season after having September surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee.
A source with knowledge of the situation tells Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio that the All-Pro running back has resumed light running, and the timetable for his return “continues to be December.”
The first game of December on Minnesota’s schedule is a Thursday night matchup against the NFC-leading Dallas Cowboys.
The Vikings are averaging 2.7 yards per rush attempt this season. No team has rushed for 2.8 yards per rush attempt or worse since the 1994 New England Patriots, according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Peterson’s return would do well to prevent the Vikings from making history in a bad way. He has averaged 4.9 yards per rush attempt during his 10-year career.
