Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan isn’t looking past the 2-8 Jacksonville Jaguars.
Despite a five-game losing streak and the only wins coming against the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears, Ryan isn’t ready to dismiss Week 12 as an easy win.
He spoke with the Buffalo News‘ Nick Veronica about the Jaguars:
That’s the best two-win team I’ve ever seen. That’s the truth. I don’t get it. Statistically, they’re the seventh-rated defense in the league (in yards per game). They’re ranked higher than we are on defense. Their offense is 21st in the league but now they’re healthy outside and they got three guys that can really play.
Ryan went on to expand on the comments:
Well hell, we’ve only won five. So I guess you can look at that, but who are we to look [down] at a two-win team? I don’t care if we’re playing West Seneca. It makes no difference right now. We know what our job is. We have to win and we recognize that and we know that.
It’s a smart approach by Ryan, whose team has looked human this year by beating teams such as New England but losing to Miami and Baltimore.
Luckily for the Bills, Jacksonville’s strong numbers in certain areas haven’t been enough to outweigh the misery everywhere else. The team’s two wins against terrible opponents came by a combined four points.
If Buffalo shows up and plays its game this should be an easy win. But this is 2016, so who knows? At the least, it’s a sobering, leveled interview with Ryan.
