Robert Griffin III probably won’t need surgery

Cleveland Browns v Philadelphia Eagles

Robert Griffin III isn’t likely to need surgery on the left shoulder that was injured in Week 1 against the Eagles, according to ESPN.com.

A four-week checkup revealed that the shoulder is healing properly.

Griffin is on injured reserve and would be eligible to return in Week 10 at Baltimore, but the Browns (0-6) don’t plan on rushing him back.

Cody Kessler, the Browns’ third-round draft pick, has completed 65.6 percent of his passes in four starts with four touchdowns and one interception. His passer rating is a not-to-shabby 93.8. That’s 14th among quarterbacks with at least 100 attempts.

Kessler is 0-4 as a starter, but that’s not all his fault. So far, he hasn’t given the Browns much of a reason to rush Griffin back.
