The big question in Pittsburgh this week has been whether or not Ben Roethlisberger will start Sunday in Baltimore less than three weeks after having surgery on a torn meniscus.
That question has been answered with another question, more specifically the “questionable” status that Roethlisberger was officially given on Friday.
Teams no longer have to declare a player “probable,” but it’s a safe bet that Roethlisberger is much closer to where “probable” used to be on the injury status spectrum than he is to “doubtful.”
Roethlisberger has been a limited participant in practice all week, but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Thursday that he’ll play Sunday unless there’s an unforeseen setback with his knee. He took reps with the first team on Friday.
“I think he looked really good,” Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown said.
The Steelers (4-3) come into this game with two straight losses. Based on the best odds, they are slightly favored to win. The Ravens (3-4) have lost four straight. But a Ravens win would tie them with the Steelers for first place in the AFC North. If a healthy Roethlisberger leads the Steelers to a win over the Ravens and increases their division lead, then last week’s bye couldn’t have come at a better time.
Also listed as questionable for the Steelers is cornerback William Gay with a foot injury. If he doesn’t play, his 151-game playing streak will end. It’s the longest active streak among cornerbacks. But the number 151 doesn’t mean as much to Gay or the Steelers as the numbers on the scoreboard at M&T Bank Stadium Sunday.
