Temple names Florida’s Geoff Collins as next head coach

Cincinnati v Temple

Less than a week after the Temple Owls said goodbye to its now former head coach Matt Rhule, the American Athletics Conference champions have found their next head coach.

According to sources, the Owls will name Florida’s defensive coordinator Geoff Collins as its next coach.

Collins served as the Gators’ DC for two seasons, and comes with over two-decades of coaching experience, including stays at schools such as Alabama and Mississippi State.

Collins led a Florida defense that was ranked eighth in the nation in yards allowed (310.2) in 2015. In 2016, the team allowed just under 18 points per game and ranked seventh in the nation in total defense.

Collins will now take the charge of a Temple football team that is coming off its second-consecutive 10-win season, capped off with a conference championship victory over Navy.

While Rhule is largely credited for salvaging a football team that had just two wins in his inaugural season, Collins will be looked upon to help the Owls climb up the ranks going forward.
