The idea the Jacksonville Jaguars give Gus Bradley the boot this offseason and bring on Tom Coughlin isn’t anything new.
Coughlin, after all, spent part of his career coaching the Jaguars and has spent the last year working in the league office after leaving the New York Giants.
Jacksonville, on the other hand, might be tired of waiting on Bradley to turn things around. CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora once again linked the two sides Sunday:
A reunion between Tom Coughlin, one of the most prominent figures in Jacksonville sports history, and the Jaguars is possible this offseason, according to league sources. Jags owner Shahid Khan is mulling over coaching changes, and Coughlin has appeal to the team in various capacities.
Per the report, Coughlin still owns a house in Jacksonville. The fit certainly makes sense considering he orchestrated one of the franchise’s best seasons.
A disciplinarian of a coach, Coughlin looks like the perfect fit for the Jaguars, a team with a talented young roster in need of direction. Bradley might have been the guy to guide such talent acquisition, but he’s not proving to be the guy to groom it into a cohesive contender.
Coughlin might do that, so expect this connection to only strengthen as the offseason approaches.
