Joe Thomas Sr. made college football history on Saturday, becoming the oldest player to ever take the field in a Division-I game.

The 55-year-old running back carried the ball for three yards in the first quarter of South Carolina State’s game against Savannah State on Senior Day. Thomas has practiced with South Carolina State for the last four years, but never had the opportunity to play in a game until now.

Thomas’ son, Joe Thomas Jr., is an inside linebacker for the Green Bay Packers and played at South Carolina State from 2010 to 2013.

“It’s been crazy for me,” Joe Jr. said, via ESPN. “I never thought you’d see a 55-year-old running back. I’m just proud of him. He made his mind up to do something and stuck to it.”

Thomas’ story just goes to show you’re never too old to chase your dream.
