It was a solo home run to lead off the first inning. Judge broke the record previously set by Yankees right fielder Roger Maris of Hibbing, Minnesota, who had 61 home runs for the Bronx Bombers in 1961.
The home run came off of Rangers starting pitcher Jesus Tinoco of San Antonio de Capayacuar, Venezuela in a 3-2 Yankees loss to Texas at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. It was the 161st game for the Yankees this season. New York is currently at 99 wins and 62 losses. They have already clinched the American League East and have the second best record in the junior circuit. The best record belongs to the Houston Astros, who are at 105 wins and 56 losses.
Chance for the Triple Crown?
Heading into the Yankees’ final game of the season on Wednesday afternoon against the Rangers, Judge has the possibility of winning the triple crown in the American League. For a player to earn the triple crown, they need to lead the league in a season in batting average, home runs, and runs batted in.
Judge currently leads the American League in home runs (62). He has 23 more home runs than Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels, who is second with 39 home runs. Judge currently leads the American League in runs batted in (131). He has seven more runs batted in than Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Guardians, who has 124. Judge is also second in the American League in batting average at .311. The leader is Luis Arraez of the Minnesota Twins at .315.
