The Cleveland Indians have made it clear that they’re phasing out the Chief Wahoo logo, and frankly, it’s surprising that they took this long to do it.
With all the scrutiny the Washington Redskins have been faced with over their name for the racist stereotype, it’s a wonder why the Indians haven’t received all that much criticism over theirs, especially given what the logo looks like.
But we won’t be seeing the Chief Wahoo logo nearly as much in the future, it seems.
Big League Stew reported that the team is retiring its alternate cream uniforms, which features Chief Wahoo prominently on the sleeve, and replacing them with blue home alternates. They’ll also be doing away with the Chief Wahoo caps, replacing them with “C” caps.
So this is what the red block c cap will look like with the navy jerseys to be worn next season. I honestly don't mind the look. pic.twitter.com/c91bVUql5x

As you can see, Chief Wahoo is still featured on the top of the sleeve, but in a much smaller fashion than it was. And the caps are a big change frmo what we’re used to seeing.
From a branding standpoint, it takes awhile to phase out a log completely. This looks to be the beginning of it, and by 2018, we likely won’t be seeing Chief Wahoo at all.
