Former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy will be a hot commodity on the market, as jobs begin to open up with Black Friday on the horizon.
That is, of course, if he does indeed want to coach in the NFL again.
McCarthy, after all, served as the Packers’ head coach from 2006 up until just one week ago, so coaching the team essentially comprised a chapter of his life. Not only that, he has a family, so he may elect to take time off and spend more time with them — assuming he wants to remain living in Green Bay.
A source close to McCarthy spoke to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky about that very topic, and apparently, this is what the former head coach is looking to do currently:
“Lay low and try to finish this professional chapter on the high road,” the report read.
Adding onto that, McCarthy is also deciding if he wants to throw his name in the hat for an upcoming head coaching position, or if he’ll take a year off and continue to live in Green Bay, where his family has “deep roots.”
This is the course of action we’d expect to see from McCarthy, who loves coaching football, but also has strong ties to the community. Packing up and leaving for a new venture tomorrow may work for some, but not him. We won’t be surprised at all if he takes a year off from coaching, but we also know he’ll be back at the helm at some point — when he feels the time is right.
