The Atlanta Hawks signed point guard Dennis Schroder to a four-year extension on Wednesday, one day before the season-opener against the Washington Wizards. The deal is worth $70 million, according to a report by Zach Lowe and Marc Stein of ESPN.com.

Schroder, 23, was drafted 17th overall by the Hawks in 2013. He has spent the past three seasons in Atlanta as the backup point guard to Jeff Teague. However, the Hawks traded Teague to Indiana in the offseason, putting faith in Schroder to become the starter.
Last season, Schroder played the most minutes of his career, averaging 20.3 over 80 games. He also set personal bests for scoring (11.0), rebounding (2.6) and assists per game (4.4).
With Teague out of the picture, expect a breakout season from Schroder.
