Summertime done.

Come and gone, my oh my.

IMG_8100You know it’s bad when your sarcastic Tweet isn’t even interpreted as such by its intended target.  I sent this out right after I heard that Joe Barksdale was injured on Sunday.  This came after D.J. Fluker once again got hurt.  Clearly, I meant to suggest that Franklin was the least sturdy guy left.  Somehow, I don’t think he really reads his Tweets, anyway.  I was in Martha’s Vineyard last week as that this Bosa stuff flared up.  I must admit that I started to really believe that he’d sit out the year.  It just seemed like something that would happen to the Chargers.

My dad seems to be doing pretty good after all his chemo and has his next scan in a few weeks so I know everything is keeping their fingers crossed.  Even he asked me why Joey Bosa was showing up in his alerts.  After The Organization went public with the negotiations, it seemed like everyone was shitting on the Bolts.  I couldn’t blame them although I did take issue with Bleacher Report saying “Chargers gonna Charger.”  Only we can do that to our pledges.

But even though Bosa got the most up front money even for a Charger rookie, it just seemed like they were cutting their nose to spite their face.  Even though offset language seems stupid when you clearly aren’t planning on cutting the guy, I would understand if they didn’t want to give him something they didn’t give all their proven stars.  However, I really wonder whether Rivers and Gates care about that stuff.  Yes, I know they both held out.  Of course Tomlinson and Rodney Harrison also chimed in (as did Merriman) while the holdout was still going on.  I’m sure you saw all this, FAITHFUL READER.  If you didn’t you can look it up.  Rodney’s comments came last and needed to once again take a shot on the Chargers by calling them “bullies.”  When he thanked AJ for cutting him and letting him go on to win two rings, he should have left it there.  Of course, I see today that he’s reminding Kapernick that he’s not really black.

I saw Gordon’s touchdown run, which was encouraging.  Someone Tweeted that Watt missed his block after Rivers made a great read.  It didn’t seem like the fullback whiffed to me.  The defense continues to be a concern, which Bosa may be able to help.  Apparently McCoy knew before kickoff that a deal was near and kept it under that stupid visor of his.  It’s good to see that his gamesmanship is on par in one area at least.  I also saw that he actually went for it on 4th and 1, but was denied.  I’m sure he’ll use that as ammunition to never go again.  The new punter will also help him never take a risk on the opponents’ 40.  Oh, how I wish I was joking.

James Jones getting released was a surprise.  Apparently, he had a hard time getting up to speed on the offense.  How hard can it be to watch shotgun draws to Woodhead for no gain?  Now that Oliver is out for the year, will McCoward actually have to use Gordon in the red zone?  His rookie year was worse than anyone could have imagined, but McClueless did the same thing with Mathews.  Even Kevin Acee pointed out that Gordon needs to get in a rhythm but won’t be able if he’s constantly being rotated out.

I do hate that I have to be so negative with this team.  Sure, it helps to shield me from disappointment.  But I feel like I’m just another person “hating.”  Isn’t the point of being a fan having a little hope at least?

Anyway, I haven’t deleted the preseason snaps I’ve missed from my DVR.  I may yet suffer through them before opening day.  Now I’m off to see Bruce in Jersey.  I won’t let this summer go without a fight.

Talk to you next week.  Hopefully no one else will get hurt on Thursday as the world watches to see what Squidward Tentacles does during the National Anthem.
