Well It Seems Like I’m Caught Up In Your Trap Again

Sorry I waited until Draft Day to get this out.  Things have hectic lately, as I just caught Bruce’s final two shows in Brooklyn.  My dad is doing OK.  He’s had a few chemo treatments but there haven’t been any further PET scans yet.  Thanks again for all the well wishes.  I caught the Santana reunion show at MSG as well.  Unfortunately, we missed the first half of his set because it a) started exactly at 7:00PM and came before Journey.  Who the fuck could have predicted that?  Clearly, I need to visit Santana’s site more frequently even if I am a lifetime member of his fan club.  However, Neal Schon promises more shows and you can see part of the show I did witness above.  If you haven’t heard their new album, check it out.  It sounds like a reheated version of the 1971 studio output and that’s not a bad thing.

So the Chargers apparently “control” the draft with the first two picks being traded away.  I don’t claim to know much about college ball, but I don’t think they are really taking this kid Stanley from Notre Dame.  Is Tunsil that good?  If not for Drew Brees’ mistakes in 2003, I’m sure would have taken Robert Gallery.  He was as much a “sure thing” as Tunsil.  How would that have worked out?  Ramsey, Buckner, they both seem like good fits.  Telesco claims that they have been locked in on their pick for a while.  However, you can’t trust anything that’s said this close to the draft.  Since we know this will be the first time Telesco doesn’t trade up, I hope that he at least gets a guy worth the pick.  If he can trade down for a player they want anyway, I hope he can.  I’m sure that possibility has been and will continue to be explored.  I just hope that Telesco realized how shitty this offensive line is.  If they are using injuries as an excuse for the second straight season, we’re really fucked.  I know they paid Joe Barksdale and that King Dunlap is returning, but we can’t pass up good players for the same average ones that are always getting injured.

I was reading Sports Illustrated’s draft issue and saw that Ohio State’s Cardale Jones wrote the piece on the back page.  In it, he talked about working out in San Diego with Chris Watt.  Apparently all it took for Watt to participate was the promise of a black coffee and a breakfast sandwich.  If you’ve seen him play center over the last two years I think you’d agree that is about all he’s worth right now.  Seriously, this kid didn’t play center and it really shows.  If we really want to give Rivers a final shot to do anything but get signatures on petitions, we might want to reconsider this kid.

Speaking of centers, I received an e-mail about Nick Hardwick and Jason Verrett’s football camp.  They offered to let me come out and talk to them in exchange for a plug, but I had to tell them I live 3,000 miles away.  Check out the list of former participants.  There are some random names there.  Sorry you missed your shot to talk to Marlon McCree or Cletis Gordon, FAITHFUL READER.  Jyles Tucker and Larry English would have been nice, too.  While you’re at it, you can also check out some live odds on hityah, a great new site that gives comparisons on sports betting odds.

I know I mentioned the stadium effort in passing, but I won’t really comment right now.  There’s still so much up in the air.  But it’s clear that San Diego is kind of a mess politically.  At this point, Dean is at least looking like he’s trying.  The “Where’s Kevin?” signs make it seem like the culpability is shifting to the mayor at this point.

Anyway, I’ve left you a couple of videos from the Bruce shows.  They were fantastic and I wrote a review for Glide Magazine for the first time in a while.  The other ones are still on the “links” page.  It’s Take Your Daughter To Work Day and since I’m off this week, I’m going to cook up some hot dogs and burgers with Sarah.  I’m sure we’ll talk a lot in the coming week.

JIC,
