With struggling Jets coming to town Chargers tickets down 22% since last week

The San Diego Chargers usually start their season the exact opposite way. They chose a different approach in 2014, as they’ve started hot at 3-1, including a huge Week 2 win against the Seattle Seahawks. The Bolts’ lone loss came on the road to a currently undefeated Arizona Cardinals team, which helps make them look like one of the more complete teams in the league heading into Week 5. That notion has them as the clear favorites as they welcome Geno Smith and the New York Jets to town this week. Gang Green has done the exact reverse of San Diego to this point, as they started off with a win but have now dropped their last three.

While this is by no means a guaranteed win for San Diego, Chargers vs Jets tickets are surprisingly cheap for a game that they should be able to reward their fans with a win. Tickets for this game have an average price of $135 on the secondary market, while fans can even get in for as low as $36 The game is currently 37.9% below the season average for Chargers tickets in San Diego this year.

By now it’s been made pretty clear that quarterback Philip Rivers is among the best in the game. Head coach Mike McCoy helped him revive his career last year and that momentum has carried through into 2014. He is the engine that runs this San Diego offense, and without Rivers this team would be dead in the water.

He’s been so good, in fact, that this normally extremely balanced Chargers offense is somehow getting by without Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead (injured), as well as a paltry 2.0 yards per carry average out of Donald Brown.

That lack of effectiveness in the ground game is something that simply cannot happen if the Bolts are to win in Week 5, however. New York has one of the league’s best run defenses, so the Chargers are already behind the eight ball in that department. However, if they can’t even present a remote threat to run the ball, New York will be able to key in on Rivers too easily. The matchup with New York’s secondary still favors Rivers, either way, but it’s crucial for San Diego to find a way to continue to put forth a balanced offensive attack. If they can continue to do that and control the tempo, they should be able to hold serve at home and get their fourth straight win.
