Vincent Jackson’s season has been put on hold.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed the veteran wideout on injured reserve due to a knee injury. He suffered the injury during the Buccaneers’ 17-14 win over the Carolina Panther on Oct. 10.
Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported that Jackson tore the ACL in his left knee. However, ESPN’s Ed Werder reported Jackson’s knee injury is not definitively a torn ACL.
Jackson is out at least eight games after being put on IR. However, if the injury is not a torn ACL, then it is possible Jackson could play again this season.
“This is obviously very disappointing for me personally,” Jackson said in a statement Tuesday. “I had high hopes for this season because I know what we are capable of accomplishing as a team.”
“My top priority going into every season is being out there with my teammates and helping my team any way possible,” Jackson said. “While I may not be on the field for the foreseeable future, I will be focused on beginning my rehab as soon as possible and finding ways to support my teammates in whatever way I can.”
Jackson, 33, had 15 catches for 173 yards through five games. He is tied for second-most targets on the team with 31. With Jackson gone for the foreseeable future, the Buccaneers will turn to No. 1 receiver Mike Evans along with Adam Humphries and Cecil Shorts.
