The rate we’re going with the fighter suspensions recently, the UFC isn’t going to have enough eligible fighters left on their roster to fill out their fight cards pretty soon.  The latest to be thrown in the penalty box is Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson, who infamously kicked referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy after his Sept 24th fight against Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva in Brazil.  Nelson’s beef was he felt McCarthy didn’t stop the fight soon enough and he was forced to beat on Bigfoot longer than he wanted to.

MMAFighting reports that Nelson has been handed a nine-month suspension for his actions, as well as a $24,000 fine from the Brazilian Superior Justice Court of MMA (what a terrific handle that is!).  They classified his actions as “assault and unethical behavior”, but took into account that he is apologetic and wasn’t trying to hurt McCarthy.  However, if Nelson formally apologizes to McCarthy inside the cage or in a press conference before the calendar turns to 2017, the commission is willing to cut his punishment down to six months and $13,700.
