Welcome to another installment of UndercarDVR, where we review what you need to see from this week in fights and whether it needs to be watched, deleted, or put in fast forward.
Super Featherweight: Vasyl Lomachenko defeated Nicholas Walters by seventh-round TKO to retain the WBO junior lightweight title.
- In an absolute boxing clinic, Lomachenko decimated Walters over the course of seven rounds before forcing a corner stoppage. While Walters did take damage from combos and a left uppercut from Lomachenko in the latter half of the fight, the Jamaican seemed to be fine apart from taking the brunt of an effective 1-2 combination from Lomachenko early as the champion gauged range. Walters seemingly did not quit due to anything particularly bothering him physically. It seemed as though Lomachenko frustrated him and lapped him early to force the stoppage.
- Lomachenko will go on to face the true elite of super featherweight with the likes of Jason Sosa and Jose Pedraza awaiting him, but it would not be surprising if they continue to build Lomachenko with some more fringe contenders considering his record. Lomachenko is simply the uncrowned king of the division and that will come in time.
- Walters put in a concerning performance. To flat out give up can be disastrous for the psyche of a fighter. Walters has all the tools, but his next few fights will really tell us what to expect from him going forward. Expect a few tune-up bouts before dipping his toe into the pool of contenders.
- Lomachenko is as close to perfection as you will get in a boxing ring. Watch him with the use of pause, rewind, and hell, even slow-motion if you have it. Anyone that is a fan of the sport has a chance to see technical greatness as it happens.
