A trade- up scenario with Miami…and an Eagles book report…

Word out of Miami is the Dolphins are primarily interested in trading down their 15th pick in the 1st Round of the draft Thursday night…  Cody Strahm of Phins Phocus put this hypothetical trade offer on the mock table for the Eagles:

                Dolphins 1st-Round pick (#15 overall)……….. for Eagles 1st-Round pick (#23 overall ) and 2nd-Round pick (#54 overall).

What possible value could such a trade produce for the Eagles?

Looking at the offer from the standpoint of which prospects are likely to be already gone by pick #15, I’m guessing these guys will be off the table at that point anyway, as Probable Picks #1 through #14, First Round:

Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn……………to Panthers
Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama………to Denver
Cam Newton, QB, Auburn…………to Buffalo
Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU………….to Cincinnati
Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri……….to Arizona
A.J. Green, WR, Georgia…………..to Cleveland
Von Miller, LB, Texas A&M…………to San Francisco
Robert Quinn, DE, UNC…………….to Tennessee
Tyron Smith, OT, USC……………..to Dallas
Julio Jones, WR, Alabama………….to Washington
Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska…to Houston
Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson……to Minnesota
Anthony Castonzo, OT, BC………..to Detroit
Aldon Smith, DE, Missouri………….to St. Louis

So between pick #15 (Dolphins) and pick #23 (Eagles), here are the guys I think that would now be in play only if the Birds decided to take Miami’s hypothetical trade-down offer:

Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas… now in play…. probably the guy Miami would have picked at #15….
Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue ….now in play….probably would have gone at #16 to Jacksonville if Miami stays at #15…
J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin …. now in play…. probably would have gone at #17 to New England if Miami stays at #15…
Cam Jordan, DE, California…. now in play…. probably would have gone at #18 to San Diego if Miami stays at #15…
Mike Pouncey, C/G, Florida…. now in play…. probably would have gone at #19 to New York Giants if Miami stays at #15…
Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama…. now in play…. probably would have gone at #20 to Tampa Bay if Miami stays at #15…
Phil Taylor, DT, Baylor…. now in play…. probably would have gone at #21 to Kansas City if Miami stays at #15…
Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin…now in play… probably would have gone at #22 to Indisanapolis if Miami stays at #15…

Are any one of these guys worth giving up a 23rd and a 54th overall pick in this mock scenario proposed by the Dolphins? If this were real-time, would you even want to move up in the 1st Round at the expense of losing the value of your later-round picks?

I don’t have enough smarticles to predict what the Eagles would or should do in such a scenario, given the personnel resources of the 2011 Draft…and the weird circumstance of a lockout on free agency.  That’s why I present this mock trade-down proposal from Phins Phocus and the Dolphins to our draft-savvy readers here.

But just considering the Miami blogger’s proposal has reminded me to be ready for anything on Thursday night— this may not be a cookie-cutter Draft after all…and may feature a lot of trade-back movement.

Meanwhile, a nice addition to your Eagles reading library has been re-
released just in time for the NFL Draft…

“Game of My Life”  by Robert Gordon, published by SportsPublishing LLC

Several legendary Eagles players share their fondest single-game experience and memories… Some of these games involve championships, while others seem ordinary save for extraordinary personal meaning. In each case, it is the player who singles out the game, the moment in time that to him ranks as the most defining of his Philadelphia career. Chuck Bednarik and Tommy McDonald are among the former Eagles players profiled, along with other big names like Bill Bergey, Seth Joyner, Keith Jackson, Mike Quick, Vai Sikahema, Gary Cobb, William Thomas, Brian Baldinger, Claude Humphrey, Bill Bradley, Lito Sheppard, and Vince Papale…

Bob Gordon resides in Lansdale, PA, and has written a bunch of entertaining books on Philly sports subjects, including works on the 1960 Philadelphia Eagles, the 1993 Philliies, and on Ed Pinckney’s Villanova Wildcats…

Wilmington fan Lefty Rudzinski gives a nice review of “Game of My Life”…

“…in “Game of My Life”, Bob gets us inside the minds of some truly great Eagles players, some of whom played on that 1960 team. We get to read about Tommy McDonald’s recollections of playing in Philly, and you may be surprised by the game he picks as the “Game” of his life.  Bob really fills the page with incredible details and memories for all diehard Eagles fans to absorb…”

“Bob also caught the thoughts of Andre Waters just before he tragically died. With that in mind, reading Andre’s account of the game of his life is poignant in retrospect.”

It’s all there… the House of Pain Game, the Vet, the songs that were playing on the radio as special Eagles moments unfolded… Gordon also interviews Brian Dawkins, Frank Lemaster, Timmy Brown and Dick Vermeil… Broadcasters Bill Campbell, Merrill Reese and our own Dave Spadaro also weigh in.  It’s a good read… re-released in hardcover at suggested retail price of $35, but you can find it a little cheaper at Amazon.com.
