DeSean Jackson got his 5-year deal with the Birds…and it wasn’t peanuts…$51 milz with probably $20 million of that guaranteed [will update with exact guaranteed money figure when released…~UPDATE—and ACCORDING TO OUR REPORTER “Blas”, it is $15 million guaranteed]…
Intelligent fan reaction to the signing appears in the Livefyre commentary of the Bored below…
Jackson had been designated as the team’s franchise player earlier this month and was scheduled to play this season on a one-year, $9.5 million deal.
“We are thrilled to be able to keep one of the NFL’s top playmakers in Philadelphia,” Eagles coach Andy Reid told the team’s web site. “DeSean is a game breaker, he has the speed and ability to score from anywhere on the field, and he has proven himself to be a big threat for our offense. Signing our own players was a big priority for us this offseason and DeSean was certainly high on our list. We are very excited about his future as an Eagle.”
Jackson, 25, has 229 career receptions for 4,085 yards and 21 touchdowns in four seasons. He made the Pro Bowl in 2009 and 2010. In ’09, he became the first player in league history to make the Pro Bowl at two positions (wide receiver and punt returner).
Other Eagles deals from Wednesday afternoon………….
The Eagles re-signed DE Trent Cole to a five-year, $48.5 million extension, released C Jamaal Jackson, traded T Winston Justice to Indianapolis, and re-signed DT Antonio Dixon to a one-year deal.
They also signed free agent Mike Gibson, a 6-3, 300 lb. tackle/guard from the Seahawks–and perhaps not coincidentally a guy the Eagles had drafted themselves (out of Cal U.) in the 6th round of the 2008 draft…
I’ll update you later tonight with a running scorecard of other notable NFL signings and cuts… and the esteemed members of the Bored will keep you informed and entertained with their own Livefyre versions of breaking news events…
And so we shall bring honor and light… as we “carry on”…
