Word out of Miami is the Dolphins are primarily interested in trading down their 15th pick in the 1st Round of the draft Thursday night… Cody Strahm of Phins Phocus put this hypothetical trade offer on the mock table for the Eagles:
Dolphins 1st-Round pick (#15 overall)……….. for Eagles 1st-Round pick (#23 overall ) and 2nd-Round pick (#54 overall).
What possible value could such a trade produce for the Eagles?
Looking at the offer from the standpoint of which prospects are likely to be already gone by pick #15, I’m guessing these guys will be off the table at that point anyway, as Probable Picks #1 through #14, First Round:
Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn……………to Panthers
Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama………to Denver
Cam Newton, QB, Auburn…………to Buffalo
Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU………….to Cincinnati

So between pick #15 (Dolphins) and pick #23 (Eagles), here are the guys I think that would now be in play only if the Birds decided to take Miami’s hypothetical trade-down offer:
Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas… now in play…. probably the guy Miami would have picked at #15….
Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue ….now in play….probably would have gone at #16 to Jacksonville if Miami stays at #15…
J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin …. now in play…. probably would have gone at #17 to New England if Miami stays at #15…
Cam Jordan, DE, California…. now in play…. probably would have gone at #18 to San Diego if Miami stays at #15…
Mike Pouncey, C/G, Florida…. now in play…. probably would have gone at #19 to New York Giants if Miami stays at #15…
Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama…. now in play…. probably would have gone at #20 to Tampa Bay if Miami stays at #15…
Phil Taylor, DT, Baylor…. now in play…. probably would have gone at #21 to Kansas City if Miami stays at #15…
Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin…now in play… probably would have gone at #22 to Indisanapolis if Miami stays at #15…
Are any one of these guys worth giving up a 23rd and a 54th overall pick in this mock scenario proposed by the Dolphins? If this were real-time, would you even want to move up in the 1st Round at the expense of losing the value of your later-round picks?
I don’t have enough smarticles to predict what the Eagles would or should do in such a scenario, given the personnel resources of the 2011 Draft…and the weird circumstance of a lockout on free agency. That’s why I present this mock trade-down proposal from Phins Phocus and the Dolphins to our draft-savvy readers here.
But just considering the Miami blogger’s proposal has reminded me to be ready for anything on Thursday night— this may not be a cookie-cutter Draft after all…and may feature a lot of trade-back movement.
