Patriots head coach Bill Belichick just couldn’t pass on a golden opportunity to troll the Jets.
Belichick has mastered the art of throwing subtle jabs at his opponents, rarely even cracking a smile when he does so.
He did just that at his AFC East rival on Wednesday, out of nowhere, just because he can. Belichick was discussing his history with Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel while speaking to the media on Wednesday, and he managed to troll the Jets while doing so.
Yes, “then another team” is a reference to his tenure with the Jets. Remember, Belichick was named head coach after Bill Parcells stepped down in 1999, and he resigned the following day, in what was an odd turn of events.
“Well, Romeo and I started together at the Giants in special teams, so he and I coached special teams together and then we coached defensively together through 1990,” Belichick said, via Pro Football Talk. “We worked at the Patriots together, then another team, and then back with the Patriots in 2001. I’ve relied on him through the years, both with our team when I worked with him, but even at times outside when we could help each other and it wasn’t a conflict in competitiveness.”
The Jets are so bad that Belichick wouldn’t even acknowledge them.
