Cam Newton is having a terrible week.
Newton suffered a concussion while his Carolina Panthers got pulverized by the Atlanta Falcons because he slowed down on the way to the end zone. Now he’s the target of a lawsuit by a rental company because he allegedly trashed the mansion he rented for more than 61 days after last year’s Super Bowl.
TMZ captured the details:
According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ Sports, Newton paid $123k to rent the place for 61 days — and agreed there would be NO PARTIES, no smoking and no more than 8 guests.
Problem is … the housekeeper snitched — telling the rental company Newton had been throwing multiple parties and leaving cigarette ashes all over the house.
The damages include a broken refrigerator, a trashed rug valued at $32,000 rug and more. The lawsuit, started by Jared Pobre (Stacy Keibler’s husband), wants $270,324.47 plus legal fees due to damages and the two months the property couldn’t be rented out while repairs were made.
Newton has a $103.8 million contract, so no worries here financially. It’s still a bad look if true, seeing as he agreed to no parties and such before messing the place up. If the lawsuit goes against him, it’s just more ammo for the anti-Newton crowd, and probably a chance for more people to send silly letters to newspapers about his behavior.
Keep an eye out for developments.
