New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose seems to be settling in nicely in his new environment, even though he’s only played in 18 games in the Big Apple so far.
Rose spent his first seven seasons in the league as a member of the Bulls, and was named league MVP during the 2010-11 season. He then fought through injuries in the years that followed, and with Jimmy Butler eventually taking over as leader of the Bulls, it was clear that Rose needed a change of scenery.
He got one in New York, and seems to be enjoying things so far. In fact, Rose has already come out and said he wants to remain there for the rest of his career.
“We’re building the culture,” Rose told Peter Walsh of SLAM Magazine. “We’re building the foundation now. I’m under a one-year contract so of course I want to play the rest of my life here. But it takes time, it takes patience to figure out how every one is going to fit, if it is going to fit and going from there.”
Obviously, Rose understands that he’s currently playing out a one-year deal, and is likely looking for something more long-term to remain with the team. He’s saying all the right things.
He’s playing pretty well on the court as well. Rose is averaging 16.4 points, 4.8 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game so far. He also seems to be establishing some good chemistry with Carmelo Anthony, and that’s something Knicks fans have to be pleased about.
