Eagles remain under radar… and Brizer’s MACH 10 challenge officially opens…

raskstats

Three days into it now…No big splash in free agency yet by the Eagles… you can’t count the signing away of long-time Birds’ DE Juqua Parker… Parker signed a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns for a contract worth $3 million based upon incentives…Not the most glorious exit for a fairly reliable performer for the Eagles over the past half-decade plus… too bad his ultimate legacy will be the memory of “4th-and-1” and the offsides jump in a crucial road game in 2011… Selective memory can be brutal. Parker actually had some great moments over the years, including three TD scores after loose-ball recoveries…

Let us turn briefly to the annual Brizer “MACH 10” Challenge

Here are the rules of play, in case anyone needs a refresher course:

“Rules of Engagement for the MACH 10 contest are clear and indisputable, and exist for your safety and protection against wayward list stealers…of which there are many…So, the inglorious and semi-famous logistics are as follows:

“SELECT ANY 10 players from the college draft as potential Eagles in 2012. DO NOT INCLUDE THE ROUND. The BORED does not care…The one with the most correct draft choices wins! If a tie occurs:
1st Tiebreaker:  UNDRAFTED FREE AGENTS which may be added later to the totals of the tied “winners”…
2nd Tiebreaker: After the UDFA qualifying test, and all else being equal, the earliest entry will be declared the Winner. “

To me the MACH 10 is a lot like a roulette wheel. Maybe that’s because I have failed at it miserably over the past five years. Fanny Harris has won it, Brizer has won it, JB has won it, Leo has won it….

No worries. Post your entry here between now and April 26, 2012.  Follow the rules above. (Winner gets a UPS-delivered case containing the coveted Charmin Trophy… JB99 has not yet received his 2011 trophy due to UPS address complications, but we here at EEB will make arrangements to get that trophy to him via U.S. Postal Service which has access to his godforsaken desert location)…

My own MACH 10 entry is the traditional sacrificial lamb. Maybe someone else has already submitted theirs, but not a big deal…

Usually I like to wait a little longer until Free Agency has played out and revealed more options for areas of need. But this year, with no clear FA direction for the Eagles, I now unveil my MACH 10:

1. Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama (formerly Florida)
2. George Iloka, S, Boise State
3. Cam Johnson, DE, Virginia
4. Philip Blake, C, Baylor
5. Josh Kaddu, LB, Oregon
6. B.J. Coleman, QB, UTC
7. George Bryan, TE, NCSU
8. Quintin Coples. DE, UNC
9. Matt Reynolds, OT, BYU
10. Audie Cole, LB, NCSU

I know, some big names are missing up there, but that’s the sophisticated nature of the game of MACH 10… you have to allow for the probabilities of guys most people really wanted being snatched up by other teams…and you have to project who will still be around in later rounds. Lotto may have similar odds…

And you have to try to put yourself in Andy’s and Howard’s shoes… which on the face of it is a preposterous notion, since Andy wears a size 12 and Howie wears a size 8…

So vote early and vote often. Get your MACH 10 ballot in today…it will be recorded by Livefyre.
