The Carolina Panthers (3-5-1), losers of three straight games, will travel to Philadelphia to face the 6-2 Eagles on Monday Night Football. Carolina’s offense struggled in its most recent loss to the New Orleans Saints. Quarterback Cam Newton completed just 10-of-28 pass attempts for 151 yards and threw one interception. Newton’s top two targets, wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin and tight end Greg Olsen, accounted for just 48 yards in the loss. Newton must feed his top two playmakers if Carolina wants to pull the upset in Philadelphia. Carolina’s defense gave up 100 rushing yards and two touchdowns to New Orleans’s running back, Mark Ingram. Philadelphia running back LeSean McCoy is arguably the top running back in football, so Carolina’s defense will have its hands full. McCoy will want to put on a show for his fans that are paying average ticket prices for this primetime showdown.
According to TiqIQ, the average ticket price for Carolina vs. Philadelphia is $163.14 on the secondary ticket market while the get-in price is $73. The average price for the game is 31% below the season average for Eagles tickets this year at Lincoln Financial Field.
Philadelphia’s offense suffered a major blow last weekend when quarterback Nick Foles fractured his collarbone. Despite the loss of their signal caller, backup quarterback Mark Sanchez took over and led Philadelphia to a 31-21 road win over the Houston Texans. Sanchez completed 15-of-22 passes for 202 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin accounted for 158 yards and two touchdowns while running back LeSean McCoy compiled 123 yards of total offense.
On top of below ticket prices, Philadelphia will look to defeat Newton for the first time. Newton won his only game against Philadelphia 30-22 in 2012. Newton threw for 306 yards and two touchdowns while adding 52 rushing yards and two additional touchdowns. Needless to say, Philadelphia defense must contain Newton to win the game. Expect Newton to face a raucous Philadelphia crowd in this primetime showdown.
