Wow… I had to wartch the replay of the Jets game on NFLN before I posted this…
First thing I gotta say, I apologize to Jai-Jar, who came up with a whale of a game at safety vs. the Jets’ 2nd and 3rd team guys… This is why you should never write a game weeview before seeing the tape at least twice…
Jarrett recovered from a few early misalignments and was in on every play the rest of the game…and the coaching staff basically kept him out there the entire game. I think he erased a lot of doubts in the coaching staff’s minds with his effort against the Jets.
Secondly, I waited until the 9:00 P.M. EST Friday August 31,2012 deadline for all cuts to be published by the Eagles before reporting the news…
The biggest shocker to me is the cut of CB Joselio Hanson, who played lights out during the preseason as the designated slot cover guy… Maybe this was essentially a salary-cap move aimed at 2013…Who knows for sure? But no doubt Hanson ends up with another NFL team this season…and hopefully not a Division rival in the NFC East…
Joselio Hanson was good at one thing only— slot coverage— don’t dare put him on the outside! But at 5-9, 185, in his 8th year out of Texas Tech, the former free agent was suddenly deemed expendable by Howie Roseman and Andy…did it have something to do with Hanson’s big cap number in 2013? Probably…because nobody besides Darryl Tapp was more dedicated or laying more wood in this 2012 Training Camp and preseason than Hanson…
This is why I hate the numbers games associated with the modern NFL. You got a guy in the prime of his craft and his career… then you have to dump him because he’s making too much money based upon your projected cap numbers for the following season…
Anyhoo, here’s what shook out from the preseason drama at 9 P.M. Friday night…

That doesn’t mean the roster is final yet. I’m sniffing some major trade action coming up in the week leading up to the Eagles’ opener vs. Cleveland…
What rips me up is every one of those names up there is a human interest story… and their life stories could probably fill a Disney movie script.
And dig this—Later in the night, the Eagles traded a conditional draft pick for safety David Sims from Cleveland and cut OL Julian Vandervelde. So Vandy the Singer got cut AFTER the cuts!— hurtful!
The Eagles also activated safety Colt Anderson (knee) off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. What, is this the answer to our nationally-recognized deficiency at the safety position? Really?
Maybe I’m being too cynical here…
Welp, here are the guys who made the (current) final cuts before further modifications and trades—-

Andy Reid: “In the end, we had to make the difficult decision to let Mike Kafka go. Mike is a class act, a student of the game and a great person and I think he’ll have no problem finding a job in the National Football League very soon. On the other hand, I’m proud of the way Trent Edwards conducted himself since the early days of the offseason workouts. He had to fight for everything he earned this summer.”

Okay… TJ out… until tomorrow… my head is spinning from the empathy… Cut-downs suck… Have you ever been cut from a team and begged the coach to reconsider? I have… and the memory is traumatic… At least a bunch of these guys who were cut still have a shot to land with another NFL team and come back to haunt us… In a serial-criminal kind of way, I (kind of) hope so…
