Four players are out for the Eagles: wide receiver Nelson Agholor (ankle), linebacker Kiko Alonso (knee), defensive end Brandon Bair (groin) and linebacker Mychal Kendricks (hamstring).
Wide receiver Josh Huff, who is coming off the best game of his career in the win over the Saints, will start on the outside in Agholor’s place. Rookie linebacker Jordan Hicks will start alongside DeMeco Ryans in the 3-4 base package with Alonso and Kendricks out.
Running back Ryan Mathews is officially questionable for Monday night’s showdown with the New York Giants due to the groin injury that limited him during Friday’s practice.
The Giants have listed wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. as questionable for Monday night with a hamstring injury. He did not practice on Thursday or Friday. Giants head coach Tom Coughlin told reporters that Saturday would be a recovery day before a walkthrough on Sunday.
New York will be without three starters in cornerback Prince Amukamara (pectoral), wide receiver Victor Cruz (knee) and linebacker Devon Kennard (hamstring). Jayron Hosley is slated to start at cornerback, while Mark Herzlich started for Kennard last Sunday against the 49ers. Former Cowboy Dwayne Harris has been the slot receiver in Cruz’s absence.
Starting defensive end for the Giants Robert Ayers (hamstring) is questionable after being limited during the team’s two main practices. Starting middle linebacker Jon Beason is questionable after suffering a concussion last week against San Francisco. Cornerback Trumaine McBride, who was expected to work out of the nickel, is questionable with a groin injury that kept him out of Friday’s practice. Linebacker Jonathan Casillas is questionable with a calf injury.
Wide receiver Rueben Randle (hamstring) and defensive end George Selvie (calf) are probable for the Giants.
Meanwhile, I refuse to lose to Eli Manning— but he’s making it tougher than ever this year.
Eli Manning is having his best season as a pro, having thrown for 1,417 yards with a 66.5 percent completion rate to go along with 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions.Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has coached the veteran signal-caller in every season since he entered the league in 2004, and he thinks this is the best Manning has ever looked.
“For years and years and years, he’s been literally the best-prepared guy that I’ve ever been around,” he said. “He works very, very hard. He’s very serious about his game. He’s an outstanding leader, the players like him, the players listen to him. We’ve had some opportunities, we’ve had some very, very close games. He was able to make some plays down the stretch the other day to win it, which was very exciting, obviously playing at home, for our fans. In my opinion, he just keeps getting better.”
Trends To Watch according to Alex Smith of PE.com:
Giant Running Lanes
The Eagles averaged 183.5 yards per game on the ground against the Giants in 2014. The Giants’ second-ranked run defense will be put to the test at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Book On Eli
Eli Manning has been sacked just four times all season long, the least amount of any NFC quarterback who has played in every one of his team’s games. The offensive line has been sound and Manning gets the ball out quick, but the Eagles will still look to replicate last October’s eight-sack performance.
Chip The Giant Slayer
Since Chip Kelly’s arrival in 2013, the Eagles have gone 3-1 against the Giants, including a two-game sweep in 2014. The Eagles have averaged 26 points per game against the Giants during the last two seasons.
