Coach Jay Gruden’s attempt to blow smoke up Kyle Shanahan’s exhaust pipe blew up when word came that ace CB Josh Norman will be out four weeks.
Gruden implied that Norman could return in time for the game against Shanahan’s 49ers on October 15.
Hog Heaven was skeptical about that anyway. Norman’s injury, “fractured rib,” sounds suspiciously like the injury suffered by RB Rob Kelley in Week two. Initially described as a fracture, Kelley’s hurt was found to be a cartilage injury. With that, and an ankle injury in Week Three, Kelley hasn’t been quite right.
There are twelve games to go. We need Norman as close to full health for the last eight games as a football player can be. So please, no RGIII-like “All in for Week Six” campaign by the player or the team. We learned that lesson.
Get well, Josh. Come back when you are right.
Oh! Lets have no more talk about Norman not wanting to hit anyone. He suffered that injury when he took down the Chiefs’ big tight end Travis Kelce (6′ 5″, 260 lbs).
The Redskins depth chart lists Kendall Fuller backing up Norman. The ‘Skins used CB Quinton Dunbar in Norman’s place when Fuller took a hard hit in the Chiefs game. Dunbar too was injured.
The team gives no injury updates during the Bye. We trust these guys will be no worse than “Questionable” for the 49ers. Both Fuller and Dunbar are homegrown talent, nurtured by the Redskins since they were baby pros — just the player types that fans invest in.
There is also this from CSN Washington’s Rich Tandler, Fabian Moreau, Josh Holsey will be tested in Josh Norman’s absence.
Can they carry the position for a few weeks until Norman’s return?
Hope so. Think so. Yes. They can.
