Nobody likes reporting the Eagles final cuts— but here they are…

piratesplayoffs8

We will update the Eagles’ final cuts and possible waiver signings as they occur over this Labor Day Weekend of 2015, of course… but here is how it stands right now early on Saturday morning on the day of the roster deadline… [Afternoon updates and final cuts added at the bottom of this blurger]—

Howard Eskin reports a few things: (1) RB Kenjon Barner is not being shopped, (2) LB Najee Goode is being shopped, and (3) CB Jaylen Watkins has been cut.

Safety Ed Reynolds has reportedly been cut which seems like a good sign for Jerome Couplin.

It sounded like the Eagles were trying to trade CB Jaylen Watkins. If Philadelphia couldn’t find a trade partner, he might be released. Well, they couldn’t…and he was.

Eagles released rookie undrafted free agent tight end Eric Tomlinson…. definitely a practice squad candidate.

Matt Barkley has been traded to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a conditional seventh round pick. This seems to bode well for Tim Tebow’s chances of making the final roster.

Raheem Mostert’s agent says the Eagles waived him. Seems like a potential good sign for Kenjon Barner.

Another pick from the 2015 NFL Draft class has been cut: Randall Evans. This means the Eagles will only have three of their six picks from this year’s draft on the active roster (Nelson Agholor, Eric Rowe, Jordan Hicks). Evans could be a PS candidate.

Back-up safety and special teams ace Chris Prosinski cut…. The Eagles signed the veteran halfway through last season and he played well on special teams.

John Moffitt is gone. The veteran guard struggled this offseason.

NJ.com reports Eagles 2015 seventh round pick DE Brian Mihalik has been cut. He’s an ideal practice squad candidate.

Eagles waive backup punter and knuckle-ball kicker Kip Smith. No surprise.

Eeeeeeek! Eagles waive rookie wide receiver Rasheed Bailey. The Division III home-town product had a good summer but got caught up in a numbers game. Expect to see him back on the practice squad if no one else claims him.

Backup offensive lineman Julian Vandervelde and wide receiver Quron Pratt have been released. Pratt spent last year on the team’s practice squad. Why do I have this deja vu feeling about Vandervelde? he gets released by the Eagles over and over and then keeps coming back…

Depth linebacker Deontae Skinner and rookie tight end Andrew Gleichert have been waived.

Undrafted rookie free agent Brett Boyko has reportedly been waived. The Eagles gave Boyko a decent signing bonus so he could be practice squad material.

Running back Kenjon Barner is reportedly available for trade, via NJ.com.

Eagles cut OL Malcolm Bunche, who is a practice squad candidate if he clears waivers. With Moffitt, Vandervelde, and Bunche gone … maybe Josh Andrews will make the roster.

Undrafted rookie DE Travis Raciti has been cut.

Oy vay… I hate the cuts. For me it’s personal. I shoulda made that HS basketball team as a senior. I was robbed.

12:30 P.M. EST update, Saturday, September 5:

Multiple sources report QB Tim Tebow has been released by the Eagles.  Chip Kelly to address the media at 1:30 P.M. EST to confirm…

*   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *

Tebow is officially gone….Kelly said he “just wasn’t good enough” to be an Eagles QB. Then the whip came down on:

WR Jeff Maehl (waived with injury settlement);

LB Najee Goode (whom I like, gosh darn it);

WR Freddie Martino;

LB Diaheem Watkins.

The Chippah announced he is going to find a 3rd quarterback who is right now somewhere among the great unwashed masses of free agents getting waived on Saturday by 31 other teams.

All of this sturm und drang reveals the following list of underdogs who DID make the team—for now, anyway, as undoubtedly more moves and possible trades are on the horizon:

Safety JEROME COUPLIN;
RB  KENJON BARNER;
DB  E.J. BIGGERS;
DB  DENZEL RICE;
OL  JOSH ANDREWS.
