The buzz on LaMarcus Aldridge has been that the San Antonio Spurs are reportedly open to trading the five-time All-Star. Some of Aldridge’s teammates find it hard to believe the Spurs would move one of the better power forwards in the NBA after acquiring him in the summer of 2015.
Pau Gasol, who first read about the rumors in a Spanish newspaper, is one of them.
“It’s weird to hear that type of rumor, especially at this point of the season,” Gasol said, via Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News.
Asked if the rumors are a distraction, Gasol said, “Not at all. It hasn’t been brought up or anything. But it’s weird.”
Reports have suggested that Aldridge, who finished with the third-lowest scoring average of his career last season, isn’t fitting in with the Spurs.
Patty Mills doesn’t think so.
“That is a surprise to me,” Mills said. “Our relationship has been great, both on and off the court.”
Why the Spurs would trade Aldridge after losing Tim Duncan in the offseason is difficult to understand, but there might be something going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about. This is definitely something to keep an eye on during the season.
