The Golden State Warriors have won NBA titles in three of the past four seasons, and they’re in the discussion for one of the greatest dynasties of all time.
As such, we look at them in a different way than any other team, and understandably so. The bar is set much higher, and every loss is viewed under a microscope, filled with overreactions and hot takes from the media.
So when the Warriors got blown out at home by the LeBron James-less Lakers, 127-101, it was no surprise that the talking heads began spouting off at the mouth again. James left the game in the beginning of the third quarter, and did not return, with Rajon Rondo, Lonzo Ball and Kyle Kuzma carrying the load in the fourth-quarter domination.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr didn’t seem fazed by the loss, and instead, he focused on how the team is viewed by the media and fans.
“(The media has) set the bar really high. So everything takes on a little greater sense of urgency in terms of what happens around the team,” Kerr said, according to ESPN’s Nick Friedell. “We’re maybe the most scrutinized team in the history of the league. We’re right there with the (Chicago) Bulls teams that I played on. I felt the same, but even more so now because of the number of media outlets and the immediacy of the judgment and criticism.”
He does make a good point, and we tend to agree with him. The Warriors will likely rebound in a big way against the Blazers on Thursday night, and the hot takes will, once again, be laid to rest.
