The last person anyone would think to blame for the 0-12 start suffered by the Cleveland Browns is wide receiver Terrelle Pryor.
After all, Pryor is easily the best player on the team and a breakout star with his 62 catches for 855 yards and four scores. It doesn’t sound like too much 12 games into a season, but go ahead and scroll through the list of names Cleveland has used at quarterback while keeping in mind Pryor is a former quarterback turned wideout.
Pryor himself? He says he is part of the reason the Browns haven’t won a game, according to Ohio.com’s Nate Ulrich:
But I feel there’s so much more that I could do well that I feel like I’m part of the reason we’re 0-12. That’s how I think of it. That’s what pushes me every day to try to have a perfect game. … That’s what I’m chasing.
He didn’t stop there, suggesting he should have much better numbers:
I could be so much better it’s not even funny,” Pryor said Tuesday. “Some plays that I’ve missed or some plays that I could’ve made off of that inexperience, I would say, my numbers, I may be over 1,000 [receiving yards] already, way beyond.
Look, nobody would expect Pryor to hit an interview and say he’s carrying the team. He is saying the right things at the right times—it just sounds wildly outlandish because the current situation is so rare.
Kudos to Pryor for handling this like a pro. With any luck, he’ll surpass 1,000 yards and build on his breakout year next season while the Browns properly build around him as a franchise player.
